Where we are from, Where we are going
Wow – it’s been almost five years since we opened The Center for Collaborative Health in Edina! It’s been surprisingly busy, and we are so thankful for that! So busy, in fact, that we haven’t had the time to do things that we set out to do originally, like BLOG! Given our newfound loss of freedom to be out in the world, we thought we would finally take the time to tell everyone a little bit about our clinic and how we got here.
How We Got Started
In 2015, Nicole and I sat in a small neighborhood restaurant discussing our vision for what ideal psychological care could look like and how this could be made available to people in our community. Despite different areas of interest and expertise, we both held the same belief that people are resilient and in times of stress or difficulty often only need guidance to see their inner strength and to work towards making significant and sustainable changes in their lives. We also observed that the greatest growth at times occurred when psychotherapy services were paired with other adjunctive services, such as exercise and nutrition changes, but that our clients frequently encountered barriers to access these services.
As we talked, it became clear that we should work together to create a clinic that would embody our values and provide a space where clients could be empowered to live healthier lives through traditional therapy alongside other complementary practices. Coming up with the idea was the easy part of course.
Less than a month later, we had opened a bank account together and signed our business contract. (Talk about jumping in feet first!) With the help of many generous and supportive friends and colleagues, we were able to open our doors in March 2016.
While it was just Nicole and me at first, we have grown since then and now have five additional clinicians who embody our same vision and expand the scope of what we can offer. They are skilled, knowledgeable, and some of the strongest women we know.
It has been a difficult yet rewarding journey so far. We have been able see the impact of our work with clients, which is more than we could have ever imagined and hoped for. We have built a community of therapists that are supportive of each other, enjoy working together, and take the time to collaborate to make our work even better.
Recent Developments
In the last couple of weeks, we have been faced with the toughest challenge, the COVID-19 pandemic. We have all come together to develop new policies and procedures to keep our clients safe and ensure continuity of care. In addition to the variety of psychological services that we have been able to provide at our clinic in Edina, Minnesota, https://www.centerforcollaborativehealth.com/services/, we have also started to offer Teletherapy services, https://www.centerforcollaborativehealth.com/teletherapy/, removing any obstacle to in-person care. We hope to add more wellness services as we grow!
As much as these will be trying times, we are excited for what is to come as we continue to grow and strengthen The Center for Collaborative Health.
We hope to continue adding posts to this blog as we are able. Please come back and check us out!
