What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is a discipline that combines scientific principles with individualized care plans to manage a range of health concerns, improve immune function, and encourage overall wellness.

After an initial evaluation and possible diagnostic tests, a functional medicine treatment plan might include a prescription for dietary supplements combined with specific guidance and support on lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and sleep. Through low risk, minimally invasive, and often natural interventions, functional medicine aims to improve overall health and restore the body to optimal functioning.

  • A thorough assessment is the first step in a functional medicine program. This would include a detailed discussion of your goals, any current concerns or symptoms, personal health history, family health history, and a discussion of lifestyle factors such as diet, sleep habits, exercise, and stress management strategies. This is followed by a physical exam and possible laboratory or diagnostic testing. Once completed, your provider will develop a personalized plan which may include recommendations regarding supplements, nutrition, sleep, and exercise/movement, as well as possible referrals to other specialists within our practice. No matter what your goals are, we’re here to help you figure out the best unique strategy to achieve them.
