EDUCATION
Dr. Lauren Hickman holds a Master of Arts degree and a Doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of St. Thomas. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Cognitive Science from Carleton College in 2012.
EXPERIENCE
Lauren has 10+ years of experience working in the helping profession, including home visiting, case management and advocacy work.
Throughout her career she has worked in a wide variety of clinical settings, including community mental health, non-profit, substance use treatment, and college counseling settings, treating a wide variety of mental health concerns in both individual and group therapy. She also has experience providing psychological assessment for ADHD and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
MENTAL HEALTH APPROACH
Lauren utilizes relational-cultural, person-centered therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy to connect, engage, and explore the client’s sense of self and experience of the world while instilling hope, highlighting client strengths, and teaching usable skills.
She enjoys collaborating with clients on developing a more compassionate view of themselves through gaining mindful awareness of thoughts and emotions. Lauren recognizes the importance of understanding the impact of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, spirituality, and other aspects of identity that inform an individual’s internal experience and daily life.
CURRENT PRACTICE
Lauren enjoys working with early career professionals and individuals with invisible and visible marginalized identities as well as gifted and twice-exceptional adults. Her clinical interests include identity development, life transitions, parenting, ADHD, and autism.
