Stephanie McCarty Jasper, PsyD, LP
“We are all built to be in relationship with others.”
EDUCATION
Dr. Stephanie Jasper obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse in 2005. She completed a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Bethel University in 2008 and later completed a Doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of St. Thomas.
EXPERIENCE
A common thread that spans Stephanie's 20 year career is her ability to provide stability to those experiencing extreme levels of distress and anxiety. She has worked in large systems such as juvenile justice and child protection, and has worked both in the community and within inpatient/facility-based care. She now focuses her practice on providing emotional/physical stability to first responders experiencing acute or chronic trauma-related symptoms, as well as couples and parents experiencing complicated relationship dynamics often resulting in high-conflict.
CERTIFICATIONS
Stephanie is a licensed psychologist. She has received specialized training in therapeutic crisis response, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-i), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and emotion-focused couples therapy. She has been deemed an adoption-competent therapy provider by MNAdopt and has been asked to testify as an expert witness related to psychological evaluations and PTSD.
MENTAL HEALTH APPROACH
Stephanie strives to provide a balance of challenge and validation with each of her clients. When her clients first enter therapy, treatment will focus on symptoms related to suicidal thinking, sleep disruption, anger/rage, panic, and fear. She then engages clients in a plan for further healing, providing structure and direction specific to each client's needs. While she seldom utilizes traditional "homework" as a part of the therapeutic process, she does focus on how a client can apply skills and ways of thinking to their lives between sessions. She also encourages clients to incorporate their loved ones into the therapy space to provide added support and relational repair as needed.
CURRENT PRACTICE
Stephanie provides individual therapy for adults, as well as couples and parents. Stephanie utilizes a flexible approach that includes ideas specific to narrative therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and relational cultural therapy. When providing targeted treatment for symptoms of trauma exposure, Stephanie utilizes empirically supported treatment processes including narrative exposure therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), as well as coping strategies specific to dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
Additionally, Stephanie provides psychological evaluations for voluntary, lawyer referred, and court-ordered teens and adults.
Stephanie is also the CCH Training Coordinator and supervises doctoral students in providing therapy and evaluation services with the clinic.
